    Looking to create Quizzes??

Quizziz is a great website where you can create or borrow quizzes. The quizzes borrowed can be modified from an extensive bank of existing quizzes.  After students take quizzes, you can view and download results to Excel. Use Quizizz for formative assessments, checking for understanding, and exit tickets. It’s suitable for all ages and students can access it on any device.

Journal Writing Lesson

Writing Lesson

Lesson Title: Journal Writing Subject: Language Grade: 3

Learning Goals: Gather and sort ideas for writing in a variety of ways

Overall Expectations:          Draft and revise their writing, using a variety of informational, literary, and graphic forms and stylistic elements appropriate for the purpose and audience;         Reflect on and identify their strengths as writers, areas for improvement, and the strategies they found most helpful at different stages in the writing process.

Instruction: Day 1 As a class, we will brainstorm some ideas on how to pick a good Journal topic and what makes a good journal. Students will be reminded to use words from the word wall. Google Docs, Google Slides and Google Draw will be looked at and explored together.

Day 2 Lesson Steps: Using the computer, students will choose a topic of their choice to write about. Pictures and words can be used to create a journal on either Google Docs, Google Slides or Google Draw. Students are to be as creative as they can be.

Conclusion: Students will submit their work through Google Drive and will also have the opportunity to show and share their ideas with the class.

Outdoor Classroom

The importance of the outdoor classroom and what it can do for our students.

Outdoor classrooms bring learning to life. It allows students to explore their learning in various ways in a different setting rather than in a classroom. An outdoor classroom is a space that brings learning outside. It becomes a gathering place for teachers and students and provides an opportunity to integrate nature into your school grounds. By giving students the opportunity to get outside and experience nature, they can bring learning to life.

Measurement Lesson

Lesson Title: Measuring and Comparing Mass Unit Title: Measurement Subject: Math Grade: 5

Learning Goals: Students will select and justify the most appropriate standard unit to measure an object

Overall Expectations: Determine the relationships among units and measurable attributes, including the area of a rectangle and the volume of a rectangular prism.

Instruction Introduction: As a class, we will discuss what kg and g is and what object can be measured with each unit. Using Google Forms, students will begin by indicating if an object can be measured in kg or g. Pictures and words will be provided where students can answer the questions using multiple choice. Students will also have the opportunity to look on their ipads to see what other objects can be used to measure in kg and g.

Lesson Steps: In groups, students will work together in centres to determine which mass should be used; kg or g. A chart will be provided for each student. Pictures will also be provided. Students will look at the objects and pictures and discuss if it can be measured on a scale or not. In their groups, students will also choose two objects in the classroom that can be measured in kg and the other in g.                                           Measuring Centre 1. Conclusion: As a class we will have a class discussion on our measurement centres and what we have learned. Students will have the opportunity to show the pictures they found on the ipads and explain why they chose kg or g.

Integrating Makey Makey Into the Classroom

 A very cool invention kit for the 21^st century! You can turn everyday objects into touchpads and combine with the internet to create electricity. Everyone can try Makey Makey. Get ready to experiment! Have Fun!

Wonder

Here are two great reads for adults and students. WONDER by R.J. Palacio tells the incredibly inspiring and heartwarming story of a boy named August Pullman, a boy with facial differences who enters school for the first time. Auggie & Me shares the personal experiences of some characters that we encountered in Wonder. Wonder can be shared in a classroom through guided reading, shared reading and as a class discussion. It helps us all understand the importance of getting to know a person better from the inside rather than judging a person from their appearances. Great books to teach the importance of making everyone feel included and equal. Enjoy!

                                

3d Geometry Lesson

Lesson Title: Top, Front and Side Views of Cube Structures Unit Title: 3D Geometry Subject: Math Grade: 7

Learning Goals: Recognize and sketch the top, back, front and side views of cube structures

Specific Expectations: Students will:      Recognize the views of a cube structure         Identify changes in depth on views          Draw top, front, and side views of a cube structure

Instructional Strategies: In groups, students will be using cubes, graph paper, ipads and a building mat to help them identify the top, back, front and side views of cube structures. Students are to take notes, discuss and give each other feedback.

Instruction Introduction: Yesterday we learned about building an object with nets. Today, we will be looking at the top, front and side views of cube structures. Using Socrative, students will be asked a set of questions on 2D/3D shapes and nets. Students can use their cell phones/ipads to sign into their accounts and have a Space Race with the class. All questions will be based on what we learned yesterday. Once the race is done, students will have an opportunity to discuss with their peers.

Lesson Steps: In partners, once the Space Race is done, students will use the ipads to find blueprints of buildings and discuss together what they think the top, front and side views of the building are. Students are then to create cube structures to help them better identify each view.

Conclusion: As a class, we will summarize the main ideas from what we discovered through our research. Students will have the opportunity to show their blueprints and cube structures to the class.
